In a novel move aimed at strengthening the morale
of cancer affected patients, a group of Chennai college girls are planning hair
donation campaign for making wigs. A brain child of Rotract Club of
Women's Christian College (WCC), the students are planning to inaugurate the
campaign on February 4, which is world cancer day.
The WCC students got the
idea from Locks of Love, an American organisation which is for ages organising
similar donations. "We were looking up for initiatives that will
directly reach cancer affected patients especially children and women. We
firmed up our idea after visiting the world famous Adyar Cancer Institute in
Chennai.
In our interactions with the doctors at the Cancer Institute we realized that there are requirements for at least 100 wigs per months, said Rennee Saradha, a final year student and Club president in a telephonic interview with India Today. She plans to tonsure for this great cause on February 4.Renee Saradha says the hair would have to be a minimum of 10 inches long.
