Chennai College Girl Rennee Saradha Donate her Hair

The Club plans awareness campaign in schools, colleges and corporate houses for getting hair.  "We have tied up Green Trends Salon, one of the leading salons in the city for this endeavour.  The staff of the salon will visit every day during the entire month of February where the campaign will be carried out for cutting and saving the hair", says Renee Saradha.

Another important issue the Club is facing is finding out a sponsor for making wigs.  "The making cost of a wig is Rs.3,000 and it costs anywhere between Rs.8,000 to Rs.25,000 and we are searching sponsors for this", says Renee Saradha.  She and her friends in WCC campus are planning to contribute at least 200 wigs during the February campaign to the Cancer Institute.

Cancer patients lose their hair during chemotherapy.  In some cases the hair does grow after the patients got cured, but the depression of losing hair has a psychological effect on them.  So the doctors at the Adyar Cancer Institute welcome the WCC intiative.  "It's a wonderful pilot iniative.

Actually multi factorial reasons are there for cancer patients not using wigs.  Lack of awareness, cost and reluctance are some of them.  But this move will definitely give the cancer patients a morale booster" says Dr G.Prashan, a medical oncologist, in a telephonic conversation with India Today online.
